In 2014 Google did multiple updates to it’s search results algorithm, the two big one’s where Penguin and Panda. But on April 21, 2015 Google is making an adjustment to it’s search algorithm that will have millions scrambling to get their websites up to speed. So far this is an un-named update, it is slated for Tuesday, April 21, 2015 and we understand that Google will penalize a large portion of the “WWW” who have not made their website “mobile friendly” (or better known as responsive).
Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.
Starting on the 21st most searches done through mobile devices will only return mobile friendly websites in the search results. If you website is not responsive (and many of you are not) you may lose between 30%-50% of potential customers. Or as we like to call it “Google Armageddon”.

Some of you may have already created mobile friendly versions of your website by creating a mobile only version of your website, this was a good solution for many years (actually was the only way), you can usually tell if your website fits in the mobile only category just by the url of your site. Does your website url look like this m.mysite.com when visiting on a mobile phone? This solution has some issues in that you need to produce two complete websites with two sets of data and code. This can be a nightmare to keep both sites consistent, as opposed to a “Responsive” website which uses the same set of code and data, but re-draws the content based on the resolution of the device.
So now is the time to take stock of your website, review its technology and make darn sure that you are ready for the Google Armageddon, don’t get left behind!
